Amy Savage is a Level 1 Equine Hanna Somatics Educator. Equine Hanna Somatics (EHS) is a gentle movement method to help horses reduce chronic muscle tension, correct poor posture, gain body awareness, improve range of motion, and maximize athletic potential. EHS is a neuromuscular (mind-body) movement re-education that goes directly to the root cause: the brain and how it senses and organizes muscles and movement. Chronically contracted muscles limit the amount of sensory feedback to the brain. EHS movements reset the resting level of muscle tone by asking a horse to use their voluntary motor cortex--it connects with neurons in the brain stem that cause relaxation.
EHS is different because it is the horse aligning itself. There are no manual adjustments; just an invitation to release long help. habitual contractions. From there, alignment happens naturally due to neutral resting tone of the muscles.
